Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hospice?

Our Mission Statement at Companion Hospice is to provide comfort, compassion and caring to patients and families experiencing a life-limiting illness. We affirm life and treat dying as a special and unique part of the life process. The patient and family are empowered and comforted physically, emotionally, and spiritually in order to retain their dignity and integrity.

How do I know when I'm ready for Hospice?

If you have a life-limiting illness and you want to shift your focus from curative measures to comfort and quality of life, you may be ready for Hospice.

Can I still see my doctor?

Yes, you can continue to see your doctor.

Where do you go when you are on Hospice?

Hospice goes wherever you go. After discharge from the hospital, we visit patients in their private homes, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. We bring our team of professionals to you.

Who pays for Hospice services?

If you are over 65, Hospice is paid for by your Medicare Part A. Most private insurance companies and MediCal also provide hospice coverage.

What kinds of services does Hospice provide?

The Hospice Team consists of a nurse case manager, home health aide, social worker, volunteer, and chaplain. Companion Hospice also has a massage therapist to assist with pain management. Hospice coverage provides equipment, supplies and medications related to your terminal illness. We arrange to have these items delivered right to your door.

A Companion Hospice representative would be happy to talk with you and your family to answer any additional questions and/or concerns you may have.
